Welcome to the Selway Fisher Web Site which includes our extensive range of stock boat designs, catalogues and manuals. For those who ask us for different sail plans, keel arrangements, methods of construction etc., we are constantly adding alterations to our design packages  - so when going through the web site, if you cannot see quite what you want, someone may have already asked for it and it may  exist as an alteration.

What is on this site? - this is quite a large site with details of all 350 or so of our designs plus descriptions of our design catalogues and construction manuals.
You will see at the top of this page - links to the various different pages describing the designs etc. A brief description of the design packages & services can be found below along with ordering information plus a list of site updates. Please read the ordering information carefully as there are now several ways in which you can place an order.

The Design Packages - all designs are complete for amateur DIY construction (unless otherwise stated) and have details, notes and a building procedure - please note that we also run a full back-up service allowing you to contact us by phone/fax, post or e-mail with any queries you may have before, during or after construction - we also have several Construction Manuals as an aid for those unfamiliar with modern boat-building or who want to keep up with the latest techniques.

We normally have at least 5 or 6 new designs on the drawing board at any one time (see the page on our Latest Design Work & Boat Builder's Photo Gallery) - all our work is done on commission for a particular client and then put into the Design Catalogue for sale to the Boat Building enthusiast.

All designs are by Paul Fisher BSc. AMRINA who formed Selway Fisher Design in 1974. His previous design experience comes from working in the design offices of McGruer & Co. and Silvers, both on the Clyde for a period of 9 years.

Selway Fisher Design now has over 350 stock designs in it's Catalogue ranging in length from 4' to 60'. You can start to view our designs either by going to the links at the top of this page, or by using our  New Quick Design Index

The 3 main construction techniques used for these designs are:-

• Stitch & Tape plywood using computer generated hull panel shapes.

• Ply on frame (or combined with stitch & tape).

• Cedar Strip Plank using computer generated and faired mould shapes.

Using our YachtCAD system, we can change from one construction method to another in a design and we can often  offer details for clinker ply construction for any of our designs too.

Study Plans & Full Plans - for many of our designs you may order a Study Plan which is usually two A1 (approx. 2'x3') sheets. The first A1 sheet gives large views of the design with sections, construction notes/details, and a wood materials list and the second A1 sheet is usually the main hull construction drawing allowing the potential builder an overview of the construction - also, many study plans now come with a colour photo sheet of examples in-build and/or on the water - the Study Plan enables you to investigate the design in greater depth and to do an initial costing.

A Full Plan consists of the full detailed set of construction drawings and details necessary to construct the boat.

Ordering Plans, Manuals & Catalogues - there are several ways in which you can place an order with us - these are separated into 2 mains methods :-

•  Directly with your credit/debit card whilst you are on-line - we have added an Ordering Cart system which allows you to add the plans etc you wish to order to the Cart before going to the secure area to place your order. You will find a "Buy Plan Now" button under the description of each item.
  Please Note - for the moment, the On-Line Ordering Cart does not add the cost of Postage (Shipping) to your order - however postage & packing charges will be added - for a note of these P&P charges please go to the Postage (Shipping) Charges Table. All card transactions are in Sterling.

• By Post, Fax, E-mail or Phone - for those who do not wish to order on-line, we have retained our Order Form - go to our Post/Fax Order Form page (see also the Navigation bar at the top of this page for a link) and you will find an order form which you can print out, fill-in and send by post or fax with either your credit/debit card details or cheque/postal order.

• Note that there are 2 "Buy Plan Now" buttons for each set of plans - one for UK/EU customers which includes VAT and one for USA/Elsewhere customers which excludes VAT. Catalogues and Manuals do not incur VAT for UK/EU customers and these items therefore only have one "Buy Now Button".

• Please note that all credit/debit card transactions have to be done in Pounds Sterling - the US Dollar prices given in the price lists are estimated at an exchange rate of 1.6 USD = £1 Sterling and therefore our US clients may find the amount charged on their card statements will vary (up or down) from the US price given, if the exchange rate at the time is different - however, do remember that we are more than happy to accept payment by personal US Dollar cheque at the US Dollar price given in the price lists if you would prefer to order by Post - go to the  Post/Fax Order Form  page.

• 02/03/06 - A new rowing skiff - the Mandarin 17 based on the traditional Thames Boatman's Skiffs added plus photos of the Rathlin 20 Motorboat, Tideway 14 Pocket Cruiser, Rona 21' Yacht, Chincoteague Skiff, Rhum Dinghy, 12'6" Northumbrian Coble and Henley 18 Slipper Launch.

• 06/05/06 - Had hoped to add at least 5 new designs but for the moment it is the 15' Mandarin Thames Boatsman's Skiff and the Cambrian 20' steam launch - a 41' steel MB, a 25' version of the Kari 3 and a 23' Canal Cruiser will be added soon.

• 07/06/06 - 4 new designs - the 16' Port Sorell Rowing Skiff, 6m Flushing Clinker Daysailer, 23' Ply Canal Cruiser and the 41' Humber steel Motor Barge - go to our New Designs Page .

• 30/07/06 - New photos of the Esk 14 kayak, Peterborough 14 open canoe, Thames 14 skiff, Felix 15 steam launch and the CR25 yacht added.

• 04/08/06 - New photos added of the 15' Fly Fishing Coble (strip planked version) - go to Rowing Skiffs  and the 16' Chincoteague Sailing Skiff - go to Other Dayboats.

• 30/09/06 - New strip planked design - the Safe Harbour 12 - very much a mini J class yacht - go to Other Dayboats.

• 23/11/06 - More art work put onto the Paul Fisher Art pages.

• 04/03/07 - The 19'6" Pocket Cruiser which was part of our Professional Series of designs has now had it's plans amplified with full details for home strip plank construction, go to Pocket Cruisers 16' to 20'. There has also been several photos added including pics of the Adirondack Guide Boat, Frigate's Boat, Chincoteague Skiff, Pinky, Port Sorrel Skiff, Cape Cod motor semi-dory and Thames 17 skiff.

• 25/08/07 - 6 new designs - a 11' Scow, Skylark 14 Mk3 dinghy, 22' version of the Rufus MB, Marlow 27 strip planked launch, 17' Prospector canoe and a 35' Dragon Racing canoe - go to our New Designs Page. Plus, over 30 new photographs uploaded to the site for designs including the Power 2.2, Corn Bunting SL, Pinky ketch, Stornoway 14, Fanny Launch, Golden Bay, Frigate's Boat, Skua, Freight canoe, Yamato Japanese Sailing yacht etc etc.

• 11/10/07 - 3 new pages added to the makeacanoe site including Katei and Mike's canoe building page, a page of canoe bits and pieces (rudders, sails etc) and a useful FAQ's page about canoe building (times and costs etc).

• 26/01/08 - Another new design - the long awaited Highlander 23 - on the drawing board since 2002 and now complete - go to New Designs Page. Also more photos have been added including strip planked versions of the Islay dayboat and Kari 3 pocket cruiser.

• 01/04/08 - At last - the new Micro 10 pocket cruiser design is complete - go to New Designs Page.

• 01/07/08 - 18'7" Snipa trad. clinker Spritsail Fishing Boat added to the dayboat section - go to Other Dayboats.

• 09/08/08 - Port Pegasus is a new 15'1" clinker motor/rowing boat design - go to New Designs Page and l have added details of 3 new modifications/additions to standard plans - a "Flat Top" deck cabin version for electric or diesel power of the 38'6" Linnet Launch - go to Steam boats over 30 page; a motor version of the 16' Grey Swan pocket cruiser - go to Pocket Cruisers up to 16'; and a version of the Highlander 19'6" with bulwark and larger cabin - go to Highlander dayboats.

• 23/10/08 - 3 new designs - the 19' Greenland Kayak, 26 Golden Bay Launch and 25' Kari 4 Cruising Yacht - go to New Designs Page. A further 40 or more photos have also been added to the site covering all areas of design - see next update.

• 25/10/08 - The photos mentioned above have also been put in a small gallery on the Photo Gallery Page for those who want a quick view of the new pictures.

• 08/11/08 - A new page is added - a Quick Design Index which has a thumbnail for each design which links the viewer directly to the details of that design.

• 12/11/08 - several new photos added - you can now go to the Quick Design Index where you will see those designs which have had new photos added, are marked so that you can find them quickly.
