Recommended Sail Suppliers - Genoas 2 Months, 2 Weeks ago Karma: 0
Folks: I am thinking of biting the bullet to buy a genoa. While I can hold my own over here in Kinvara, I just find the standard jib is not allowing me to break into the leading pack of sailors who are all using full or 79% genoas. I see a number of suppliers in the UK who are pricing their genoas around 220-240 sterling excluding VAT and shipping. Which sail supplier has the best value genoa (lowest cost I mean) that you know of?

Hi Chris,

Looks like Mike Tully better watch out!

I got my sails from Northen Sails (advertise in the newsletter) and they seemed to be about the same price or cheaper than anyone else I found online. And I get the impression they know what they are doing where as I guess some of the chandlers that list them maybe haven't made one in years...

Shipping costs may be an issue for you?

Will be interested to see what others say.

And are you going to go 79% or 100%?

Chris.

You might also check out Kevin-Butler Rigging. No relation to Dave Butler AFAIK but he seems to be quoting £160.00 for a Genoa, that would be inc VAT (VAT in 17.5% in the UK BTW). Its not a regatta spec (whatever that is)...!

Now that I think about it - Northen can't have charged £220 either as the Main & Genoa were about £450 delivered.

I just received a new set in the post yesterday - main and 79% Genny. I ordered them from Ted Bird of Seabird Boats (formerly Chippendale Crafts). Anyway, in my research I looked up a number of places online - best check them yourself for prices.

Chippendale
Sail Register
Pinnell and Bax
Banks
Kevin Butler
Jeckells
