Not everyone who sails a heron has regular access to the internet. Indeed many of our more knowledgeable members would prefer to spend their time on the water than in front of a keyboard. As a result this forum may not produce all the answers you want. Please don't let this put you off posting here though.
There are some basic principles of discussion forum's that it is probably important that you understand.
- First of all - they are open for anyone with a password to post - the reply you get could be a fabrication of lies. (If it comes from your arc rival on the racing circuit it may well be!!
). So use your brain when you decide to follow someone else's advice - only you know if that's the right advice for your situation. On the other hand because the forums are open to anyone you get the chance to hear different views and opinions. Often there is no real right answer (although there may well be some wrong answers!)
- Our forums are open to the public - so please be careful about posting confidential information such as phone numbers and email addresses on here. And definitely don't post your Credit Card details!!
- Be polite. Its much more likely to help you get a reply
- If you find an answer elsewhere please post back with the answer. If its from the web consider providing a link. Over time the forum then becomes a database for future questioners. You'll be surprised how many people may also be reading the forum wondering the same thing as you but don't speak up... ...then if no answer ever follows they assume there is no answer!
- Remember there is no such thing as a stupid question
What should you do if the forum draws a blank?
Well there are one or two obvious places to look - perhaps you'll already have tried them:
- The rest of the website! And have you checked the information sheets?
- What about the Australian Websites (see Links)
- And last but certainly not least - there are a series of contacts on the front page of every newsletter - someone there almost certainly know the answer to your question - it may be time to break yourself away from the internet and speak to someone on the phone!!
If you are having problems using the forums, or need help in anyway with the website - let the webmaster know as soon as possible (via the Contact Us link below). Or by posting in the Website forum.
Finally one or two technical details about using the forums. First you need to be registered - click the Register link to work through our online registration process. Once you are able to login - decide which forum topic you want to post in, then click the New Topic button at the top of the forum. The rest should be self explanatory (I hope!). If you want to receive an email when someone replies to a forum, or a specific message click the Notify button when that discussion topic or that forum topic is showing on the screen. (You can disable this by clicking the button again).
Oh and just in case you haven't already looked: be sure to read
this information sheet on repairing GRP Herons.
Good luck!
