Can I edit my post to a forum?

If you've sent a post and then discover there is something wrong with it, you can edit it.  To do this open the postr up in the forum and then click the 'Modify' button.

Sometimes you may be better posting a repoly to your own question it depends if you are supply additional information or correcting a mistake. 

Can I receive emails about new posts on the forum?

Yes.  You need to decide which forum's you want to be told about posts to. For instance if you own a wooden heron, you might not want to receive emails about repairing a GRP heron, so don't subscribe to posts from that group.

Once you have worked out which forum's you want to receive an email about you should then go to each forum group and click the 'Notify' button. Be careful! the norify button also appears when you are reading a specific post - if you click it then you will only be notified about replies to that post!

Can I use the forum to contact a heron member without posting a question?

You can use the forum to relay a message to a member by clicking the 'Messages' button., and then choosing 'new message'. However, certain security rules apply so you can not send a message to every member and you must not send messages which are commercial in nature. The member will receive an email with a link to the private message.

You would be better using the Profile tool to send a member a question as this will actually email the mmebr rather than put a message in PM's which may not be read.

Forum Problems?

How can I have a photograph in the forum?

You may have noticed some mebers have photographs in the forum.  We suggest you upload a picture of your heron!.

To do this:

Login to the forum usuign your username and password as normal. Then choose the 'Profile' button.

How do I get a username & password?

There are two sections of the site which need a username and password - the forum and certain webpages and information leaflets which are restricted to members only.

The same username and password is used for both sections, although you may need to enter them twice depending on the configuration of cookies on your web browser.

To get a username & password you need to be a association member. If you a re a member please use the Contact Us link to request a username and password from the Webmaster or use this link to request an account on-line. (requests may take a few days to process.)

How do I post a question on the forum?

The furst thing you need is a username and password.  If you haven't got one yet then you need to read the FAQ about usernames and passwords first.

How do I reply to a post on the Forum?

You know the answer to someone's question, or have a general opinion on the subject - great!  For the forum's to work it needs the whole heron community to interact so don't leave it for the hardened few to post an answer.  Replying is easy - click the 'Reply' button at the bottom of the post.

Who can read the forums?

There are several forums within the Heron Dinghy Forum.  Currently the only forum which can be read by the general public is the 'General Forum' all the other forums require a username/ password to view them (see the FAQ about usernames and passwords).

Members of the public can only read the General Forum they can not post to any forum.
