Can I change my email address that I registered with my username?

Yes.  Simply login and use the 'Your Details' menu on the left hand side of the home pae to update your information.

Can I change my username / password?

The association automatically allocates usernames and passwords.  However, we strongly encourage you to change these to soemthing you can remember more easily.  To do this - login using your existing username and password and return to the home page.  You should now have a new menu item on the left called "Your Details" follow this link and update your information.

How do I get a username and password?

Usernames and passwords are only available to paid up members of the Heron Dinghy Class Association. If you are a member of the association, please use the 'Contact Us' link at the bottom of the page to send a message to the webmaster requesting a username and password. OR you can now use this link to request an account online. Activation takes a few days..

I received an email linking to this site asking for my Bank Account Details

The Heron Dinghy Class Association has no reason to know your bank account details, or your ebay username and password.

We are aware of a number of emails circulating which provide a link to our site.  The link is broekn and produces a '404' error.  The email is spam and should be deleted.

You have not been placed at any risk if you followed the link and saw the 404 Error.  However you should be very aware of simillar links in emails which link to websites asking for information - these are often phishing scams which are not the website they seem to be and are actually trying to steal your personal details. The latest releases of Internet Explorer (IE7) and Firefox have inbuilt tools to help protect you from these sites. This article on Wikpedia provides much more detail.

If you visited followed the link and saw a website that appeared to be from your bank, or from ebay please read on...

I requested a username and password, but it hasn't come...

I am a fully paid up member, and sent an email requesting a username and password to access the website and forum.

My email included the requested sail no, boat name etc. But I haven't had a reply. What should I do?

Sometimes emails like this go astray - perhaps caught by the spam filtering tools on our mail server or yours. Firstly if you have a junk mail box you should check there. (If you are having problems with heron emails being junked let us know - we may not be able to fix it but at least it helps to know where the problems are.)

If you are confident you haven't had a reply you can try two things. You could use the 'lost password' option to request a new password be sent to you by email. This will onyl work if your account has been created.

Alternatively just drop us another email to chase it up. If that doesn't work its becasue something is going wrong (we would reply even if there was a known error) so I'm afraid you'll need to use snail mail or telephone to contact us for advice.

I sent a message using the 'Contact Us' Form but have had no reply?

I followed the link to 'Contact Us' and then the link to an individual person to send a message, I filled in the on-line form and my contact details but no-one has replied. How do I know if my message has arrived?

Messages arrive with our server almost instantly, however, they may then be forwarded to individual association committee members own email addresses. Most emails receive a reply within 2-3 days, however, if the committee memebr is away a response may take longer.

Unless you need an urgent response if you haven't had a response within 7-10 days we would suggest you re-send the message. If you still do not receive a reply, or your message is urgent, you should try contacting a different committee member - or contact the webmaster. Alternatively if you have a username and password use the Forum to post a message.

Remember! Check your JUNK MAIL box for missing messages...!

AOL users need to take extra measure:

My username / password does not work?

Usernames and passwords are case sensitive.  In other words if yourpassword was CaSeSeNsItIve and you type casesensitive the computer will not let you login.  Please check the email with your username to see if there are capital letters.  Passwords issued from the association will normally contain numbers - check that you are not confusing the number 1 and letter l or the numebr 0 and the letter O.

If you are still having problems logging in then click the 'Lost Password' link under the username field.  This will ask for your username and the email address you registered with the association and will then send you an email with a new password.

Why are there no email addresses on the website?

We have purposefully decided not to display email addresses on the website.  This is because every website that displays email addresses suffers from spam.  However you can email us by using the Contact Us links.  Clicking on the person you wish to contact will open a web form which can be used to send a message.
